JTK, did you happen to notice that approximately one out of every eight Lincolns is an 1909-S VDB? Judging from this sale, they are common as can be. There were 13 in the B&M sale TDN linked as well out of about 90 Lincolns (an even higher ratio than the Heritage sale).
This should be an interesting sale, and perhaps tell us much about the current markets movement. This is a large sale and the Heritage sales people were out in force pressing for many of their clients to sell now! Lots of great coins being sold, large amounts of Gold with 36 proofs, 61 pattern coins etc. Since this sale is right on top of the election, with some stagflation already creeping into the economy, in the form of lower stock prices, and higher food and fuel prices for the coming winter, it should be interesting to see how many lots go unsold.
The Heritage internet auction that finished last night at 10:00 cst may be an indication of what lies ahead. Of 12 $5 indians offered, 2 sold. Of 22 $10 offered, 6 sold. The reserves are set pretty high on these coins especially when you have the 15% fee added so it will be interesting to see how the Palm Beach goes. I like the Heritage auctions because they always have a lot of coins in many grades so it is a good opportunity to see what is surfacing for collectors to peruse and they usually have some very hard to find pieces.

Wayne, Yes, it would be interesting to track some of these coins and see if they actually find homes. The price of a gem 09-SVDB is certainly NOT supported by its availability.
I'm just taking a deep breath on this round of Lincolns. I have several that I am eyeballing, but get nervous about the pound of flesh I'll have to give up to win just one lot!!
It appears that a total of 583 lots went unsold. How many lots were in this auction? I wonder if anyone has any idea of approximately how many lots in one of these auctions are dealer lots being sold. If the dealer’s start getting their cash tied up in unsold lots with big reserves what then? Has anyone seen many of these unsold lots being carried over to the next auctions? I don’t know about the other folks here, but in our little part of Texas, we are definitely seeing some beginning signs of stagflation. It seems prices of many items, gas, food, building materials, utilities etc. are on the rise and our incomes are staying the same or have drop some this year. What are others seeing? I heard a new study has come out on the 10 year short fall in S.C. and Medicare. The study says that every family will have to come up with $457,000 the next ten years to pay their fair share of the short fall, I may need a little help to pay my “ Fair Share”.

The Lincolns don't look too bad. Nothing that will bring over $20,000, however.
Maybe get lucky at Heritage.

There are more tough-tough-tough varieties in this sale than I have ever seen anywhere in my life!
