Very sad that NTC and SGS have higher numbers than ANACS.

At local shows, the vast majority of third tier slabs are NTC, PCI and some Trugrade. Fortunately there are only a handful of dealers that have them.
  • Interesting. How often do you compile the statistics ?

It would be interesting to have kept a log like this starting about a year ago to see if there were any trends.

  • I may not know much about the game but it does make me wonder what people have against staid old ANACS and yet they buy stuff graded by crooked TPG's and send it to PCGS 5 times trying to get an honest grade. If there was an honest organization overseeing all this one would think that there should be some kind of standards set which would make grading conform to one grade for one kind of condition and someone to watchdog them. I guess then they would have to be licensed by someone. Or would that spoil the whole game? Maybe the guy with the biggest bucks would still buy an advantage over others. I don't like grading companies..

I have a theory that each coin eventually finds it's way into the "proper" holder.

Looks like it's slowly but surely happening. image

  • It would be interesting to know what % was raw.
  • What is still disturbing though is 7% of slabs are those homemade slabs. What a racket!!
  • are these autions? or slabs? I know that there are sellers that "group" slabs, in "sets"

    Interesting.

If this was compiled using each company's name and/or acronym as a keyword search, though (I can't imagine how else to do it), then how would one exclude the keyword spammers who put "PCGS" and "NGC" in their titles or descriptions, when they're selling raw coins or coins slabbed by other services?

And how about the listings that do not mention any service's name or acronym, but just have a picture of the slab? Many of these, of course, would include the word "certified" in the title, but when you look, you see it's some Third World holder or do-it-yourself slab. A high number of these do not mention the service's name, for obvious reasons.

Still, it is interesting to see the breakdown, and I have noticed that there do not seem to be as many ACG coins out there anymore.

There's no doubt about it -- NTC is now "the standard" in that genre.

Yep, that is correct - even when I do a search that excludes TPGs that I am not interested in even looking at, I often see their slabbed coins, but only identified as "certified" - I NEVER do a search in titles and descriptions using either PCGS or NGC because so much of the results are NOT PCGS or NGC coins.
