Sorry I should have been more clear on this....DOH! This is an item I am watching and wanted some opinions on it. I see the LM and spoon have picked up on what I see also and that is the style and the lettering. I agree it does not look very contemporary. There are things about this medal that make me feel that it could be a restrike of some kind. I needed some different eyes on it because mine are wearing out
I have send the seller a question but have not gotten answer yet. Here is the link:
I concur with LM and spoon. The engraving is too basel, and the lettering looks "off". The legends are different styles on the obverse and reverse, too.
Sorry, but this is the first time I've been on the boards since last Saturday. Real life has a nasty way of intervening.
This is indeed a modern issue. If I recall correctly, it was part of a three-medal set issued in 1988 to commemorate the centennial of the "Year of 3 Kaisers"; each medal bore the image of one of the three Kaisers: Wilhelm I, Friedrich III (who died of throat cancer a few months after his coronation), and Wilhelm II. I think there was a silver set as well.
Yeah, it's disappointing that so many sellers can't be bothered responding in a reasonable time -- or at all. Just as well, in this case. This one wasn't in very great shape. I'd wait for a nicer piece -- or the set.

On the first read of the title I thought it was a medal on the gelding of Wilhelm I

That's what I'm wondering, what's the mark below the eagle?
Nice either way!

It does look recently produced though.
