Nice NGC/ANACS-to-PCGS crossovers posted.

I used one of the B&M four coin submission forms from a year or so ago for some crossovers and did fairly well, requesting them to cross at the same grade or higher. For the cost of the form these were a bargain and well worth the try.

1 21726675 1941 5C USA PR65-----ANACS PR65.
I bought this at the Pittsburgh ANA specifically because there is no die polish at the shoulder near the rim on the obverse of the coin. It's quite clean but the strike is soft, although the step area is complete and sharp.
2 21726676 1951 5C USA DNC-----NGC PR68.
This was also an ANA pickup that has moderate Cameo but some tone on the obverse near the date. I resisted the urge to crack and rinse/dip/clean since it's a very brilliant and nice coin otherwise. Maybe I should reevaluate that thought when I get it back.
3 21726677 Boone 50C 1935/34 USA MS66-----NGC MS66.
I found this at the Michigan State Show last November. What a nice Boone with modest red/blue tone and scintillating luster. I'll use this as the half-dollar example in my Denomination Type Set.
4 21726678 1878 7/8TF S$1 Strong USA MS62-----NGC MS62.
This is a coin I also bought at the ANA from His MadNess, paid 63 money for it but the coin is just a knockout with album bullseye tone on both sides. What slowed the grade is subdued luster, I thought it would holder at MS63. Again, this will be in my Denomination Type Set as the dollar coin; I know it's a Morgan bullion coin image but I'll confess to really liking the 1878 Morgans for the VAM's and die varieties. Thanks Marty!!!image

All in all I think the submission went well. I also submitted a really sweet 1892 Columbian Half-Dollar as my free quarterly submission. It was holdered as NGC MS62 and crossed "at any grade" to PCGS MS60. Beautiful sea-green obverse with bullseye reverse album tone. My thoughts are that the graders think it's just too dark to grade it higher, but it's a beaut!! No pictures, maybe when they get back.

Not bad Al, 3 for 4! I really thought you might have gotten the bump on the Morgan...
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

3 out of 4 sent in for crossover in the holders is excellent. I've seen too many where the majority come back DNC, so on my coins I always crack them and submit raw.

    hey Eric

i mainly did them in the holders because of the submission cost and the fact that the two were toned. i'm admittedly not real certain about toning characteristics so it seemed the prudent thing to do. last year i cracked out a $2-1/2 Sesqui from an NGC MS62 and was nervous even though i was confident it wasn't a counterfiet. it posted at MS63. i'll generally do like you said, crack and submit because i'm more interested in the coin being holdered than returned DNC, but there are times when i'll go in the holder.

i recall recent threads about PCGS changing how they do crossovers. is that true and do you think that has resulted in a higher percntage that make it???

an interesting crossover stat for me----i have still not been able to same grade cross an NGC Proof Jefferson, either holdered or cracked/raw!!! that's embarrassing!!!image aside from one SMS, every ANACS Proof Jefferson i've tried has crossed at the same grade, holdered. the SMS is an anomoly, though, cause i've never holdered a DCAM and the ANACS was a 1967 MS66DCAM that went MS66CAM that was submitted raw.
