Toned Franklin? AT or NT ?????????? POLL

tsacchtsacch Posts: 2,929 ✭✭✭
OK, so I think its AT and I base this on the fact that the obverse and reverse have nearly the same toning pattern and colors. Your vote and opinion why, please. If you do vote, please put the reason why as well.

    AT.
Cause it looks like the junk tonecoin20010 sells. If it looks like an AT coin then to me it is an AT coin.
Cause it looks like somebody put it in a WR holder on the water heater.
    Cause it's in a 3rd world holder.
    Cause it's on sleazeBay.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

This sure looks like the toning that comes from canvas bank bags.....I vote for NT. Same look that I've seen on dollars for the past 35 years.....

That's very true but when were Franklins stored in canvas bags? image

100% AT. The coin doctors always forget little details, like the fact a 63 did not sit in a bag for 60-80 years.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Here's an interesting thread. This is the same seller whom I posted about a week or two back about how he refunded(through Paypal) my shipping charges because I purchased a couple of coins with a Bin. The seller shipped fast, excellent communication and the coins were better than the pics. This particular purchase(the NGC coin)(My pic is IMG 4004)past purchaseshows the same toning(although the coin has a golden color to it) as the one below graded by PCGS(pic 26dslaba).
In my opinion is he a coin doctor? No....... Does he manipulate his photos? No.......Where did he get the coins, I have no idea. But from my experience with this seller, I would buy from again if he listed a coin that I find attractive and at a reasonable price......

  • I think it is NT myself.
It sort of looks like a coin was sitting in a Dansco like album for a long time, and air got in on one side/edge
    causing the toning like that.

If it were a Morgan, I'd say NT. However, it's a Franklin and I've never once seen a Franklin that looked like this one. Thus I'm voting AT.

I would be mighty leary of disagreeing with the big doggies opinion.

I think its AT. I just havnt seen half dollars with that type of tining.

  • I think it's AT because it has "bag toning" and I have never seen a bag toned Franklin.

  • Does it take 60 to 80 years for a coin to tone like this?

  • Even though I HATE AT coins, I have to say this looks NT to me. I've seen Morgans with these colors and patterns that weren't questioned by the grading services. It also doesn't show the wild, electric neon tones that the ATers are so fond of.

Keep in mind that Morgans can look like this because of many decades of original bag toning. 1963 Franklins weren't stored in mint bags and left in vaults for 60 years or more.

It looks like he was practicing on Franklin's going for a Morgan effect were another coin sat on top for decades

    TWO sided crescent....

  • crack it out, carefully 'clean' the worst side, and i bet it'd holder at PCGS or NGC.

  • Dog97Dog97 Posts: 7,874 ✭✭✭
So for all the people that said AT based on the bag toned look.......just how did they ship & store halves in 1963?
I might add that I have a toned 1963 quarter and it was the boards opinion that it was bag toned. It was slabbed by PCGS.
But it doesn't look like that half tsacch linked.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • This thread is dropping fast but i think we could learn something from it still.

Under what type of conditions would this Franklin tone naturally, like it is shown ?

Well somebody wants it more than me, I put up a $35 bid and was outbid.........my budget for the month may be better served gettin something from someone else.

I have no idea how Frankies were stored or shipped.

I dont know, but have bought NT PCGS holdered coins from this seller before that were nicer than his pics!
Great coins are not cheap, and cheap coins are not great!
  • Don't know and too much of something to worry about. My theory on toning is, if it's questionable and it's something that I would not want artificially toned, I would automatically forget about it. It's just not worth the hassle and work of figuring out whether it is or not.

I just received these coins from the same Seller, from a winning bid last week:He Even Refunded All The Postage Fees

The coins are outrageously pretty, in hand. His scanner is lacking in ability to capture the colors. And, the price for all three appears good. No?
