I don't get it...? WANTED 1936-37-38 Proof sets

to fill out a collection for my grand-daughters. Prefer minimum grade of PCGS 65.
I've made 2-3 wanted posts here over the past year and have received ZERO emails. Am I better off going to private dealers/ebay...? Am I better off just looking for the coins singly and putting together a complte set like that??? Thanks for any/all replies.

Finding a proof set in PCGS 65 for those years will be quite a task. Remember the mintages are quite low 3800 for the '36 to 8000 for the '38.

IMO, you will have better luck trying to assemble them individually. If I had a set in PCGS 65, I would not sell it. You may have better luck finding the raw sets - they have increased in value quite a bit in the last few years. For example, I purchased a raw '38 set about 5 years ago for $700, I have turned down $1500 for it.

I woulld think putting one togother maybe easier, There are not alot of these sets still around, and if one existed it would command moon money. We hear your plea but, maybe there is not one available here.

It took me two and a half years to hand pick a set of 1936 proofs in 65/66. It was a full-time obsession and almost a full time job and it still took that long!

  • You almost surely will have to assemble these sets yourself.

I really like the '36-'42 proofs, as do many folks. There are certainly
many existing sets (assembled from singles), but most are tucked safely
away. When they do come up for sale, they are almost always offered
    individually.

The good news is that there is usually a steady stream of these coins
available from many sources - you just have to have to do a lot of looking
to find the right coins at the right price.

    Good luck! image
