What would you do with this Binion??? (Large Images)

Does the fact that this Binion was handled by NCS mean that it will not cross to NGC or PCGS? What would you grade it? Cross it...Sell it...Keep it?

Looks like it would slab... unless the reverse would get a note as environmental damage... obverse is nice, reverse not really, IMO... probably get a 62 if it slabbed because of the reverse.

I've talked with a couple other people regarding these NCS Binion dollars. I believe some of them NGC just didn't like the "Look" of them (possibly too ugly) to put in the regular "Binion Hoard" slab. Others were environmental damage I assume... hence, the NCS holder.

At least they didn't play with, clean, I mean "Conserveimage" some of these nice ones.

AS Dragon mentioned, if you want to sell, please PM me a price quote. image

It's in the NCS holder because of enviromental damage and has no chance of getting in a PCGS/NGC holder. I like coins like this that are original and untouched. mike

Darktone... "No chance of grading?" That's a pretty.bold statement considering what goes on all the time. Oh, I forgot I'd like to buy it.
You're right it has no chance.image

Note... if I owned it the coin would stay right in the holder it's in.

I thought NCS was pretty clear on the insert what the problem is when coins are slabbed through them. No, I think instead a large grouping was commissioned via NCS- some had problems (and are duly noted on the insert) while others, such as the one photo'd here, are problem free and would/should cross into NGC. I'd also think NGC would use the Binion insert too (unless they're out of them!).

  • I think in this instance, NCS merely authenticated it as genuine. I don't think they conserved it. There is no grade on the slab, though, so pricing it will be difficult and there will be those who will see the NCS slab and think 'conserved'. I'd submit it to PCGS for grading. I don't think this Binion hype is worth much.

Do you really think that coin would be in an NCS holder if NGC or PCGS would holder itimage. mike

    My thoughts exactly.

And...I am worried about losing the Binion pedegree....some pay premiums for this.

If I had to guess I would say it was body bagged a few times then sent to NCS for cleaning(conservation or what everimage) and they decided it was best left untouched and the submitter asked that the coin be holdered by NCS if NGC would not holder. Lot's of guessing on my part but in my mind it's the most logical. mike image

You don't like "My Coins" anyway image

It don't bother me non cuz I don't practice what I preach. In case you couldn't tell by the image It was sarcasm.

I just ebayed 2 NCS Binions just like this last week and got squat money for it. Less than I payed. Most people are not paying Premiums for the pedigree IMHO.

TCT, not true. I have indeed bought a coin off you. As far as "Not liking your coins" ..... I believe you have or had one I like. I just don't like the price to be perfectly honest with you. image If you sold a Binion that looked like this for too cheap on ebay, sorry for your loss. Somehow I get the feeling it didn't look just like this one as you have stated.

Besides, the toned market on ebay these days just isn't doing what it used to. I seen a nice rainbow (true rainbow) in 63 go in the 50.00 range yesterday. If it were 2 years ago it would have went for much more. It wasn't no "Monster" but it was a nice looker.

Heheh, ya see? that just goes to show how good of a customer I am. I don't like playing games. I guess I'm for the most part a pass or play type of guy. On the other hand, if you had a better price in mind you should have told me. Rather than let it sit. OK, we've derailed this thread enough.

Sorry TUMUSS. BTW, My Granddaughter would like the coin you posted in this thread. image

She's not here at the moment, but knowing her she doesn't collect by the numbers. And she will be just like Grandpa taught her and say to send them both so she can decide. Then she will act spoiled (not that I spoil herimage) and want both. Yeah, better send both.... FOR FREE of course.

I posted a question about NCS Binions on the NCS Board a while back and the bigwigs @ NCS told me the coins in NCS holders had problems which prevented them from grading but they were "interest" coins, that is, coins that collectors would still be interested in and they didn't say this but I assumed that instead of spending money to have them net graded which has the stigma of damage, they authenticated & holdered them for the collectors which had a special interest in those kinds of coins.
The reason I was asking NCS is because I have some Binions with advertising stickers on them & some with scratches, some slicks & some with holes & one with a beauticul almost solid black crescent which like yours has such heavy dark toning that it would NG for enviromental damage.

Oh yeah back on topic, what to do with it. Sell it to Dog. Do not remove from holder because it wouldn't cross or grade @ PCGS or NGC and it will lose the Binion pedigree, which is the only thing carrying the prem on it.

Just think, some down & out gambled ripped this necklace off his neck that his grandmother gave him on her death bed to trade for 1 more roll of the dice. He had a desperate burning urge he was going to get lucky this time. He could feel his fortune changing. BUTT..... After he lost his last dollar he flung himself in front of the next big truck that came through town.
