Opinions on the color of this Morgan? (Thread 1 of 300)

Since we seem to be flooding the US coin board with separate pictures of coins, I though I may play along too. This is number one of over 300.

I like the colors on your 81 S, Eric. Nice one.

Here's my 81 S. Had to reshoot this one because of file size. I'm using a softer light on this one. The halogen lighting to me, seemed to be misleading the luster.

Wayne, just keep practicing with your photos. It takes a lot of trial and error, but eventually you will find the best settings and get good shots.

color is very average. not worth any premium and possibly a negative IMO.

dark spot in front of face might be hiding marks. from the photos it looks like a 65
  • K6AZK6AZ Posts: 9,295
That's what I thought it was when I submitted it to PCGS. I like this type of color and toning, and apparently PCGS does too. They graded it 66.

did you have any doubt they would not like the color and BB it? That is not the type of color they BB.
  • K6AZK6AZ Posts: 9,295
I wasn't worried about getting a BB. What I meant by PCGS liking it is that I think they bumped it a point for the color. I sure didn't expect it to come back as a 66.

  • Nice coin, I'm impressed, I would have thought that ding on the rear of the face might have had some impart, but MS66 is great.

there was no bump for color on this coin. the cheek is clean which helps the grade a bunch
  • tjkilliantjkillian Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭
Excellent pictures! Now, explain why the grade of the coin is what it is, i.e. why not higher? Why did it get as high as it did? Make it a grading thread too.

  • Since Eric is offline, Jason, (or anyone else) why did this get a 66 when there appears to be a very visible mark on the cheek just front of the earlobe???
"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, I won't be laid a hand on; I don't do these things to other people, I require the same from them."
  • from the look of the photos I bet most of the other marks are very small and minor. the mark on the cheek I bet is pretty small in hand.

Maybe PCGS did not worry that much about the grade separation from 65-66 since the 81-S is not a rarity in 66----------------------BigE

Actually, this coin has an interesting story. I received it in a lot from another board member who wanted to get out of Morgans. On the common dates including this one, I offered them raw on the BST board. I graded this conservatively as a 64 and listed it for $48. It sat and sat, and in fact was one of two of his coins that did not sell after about six weeks. To simplify things, I bought this and the other coin for what I had them listed at.

As far as the grade, I thought is was a high end 64 with a good shot at 65, the main concern about the grade being the mark to the left of the ear and some very minor rim nicks at 12 o'clock on the reverse. I had some other stuff I was sending to PCGS, so I added this one for the heck of it. I was really surprised it came back as a 66.

Come off it. What you did yesterday is called flooding, and is prohibited on just about every message board. This board has always been pretty much hands off as far as moderators enforcing common sense, but if you and a couple others like you persist in trying to be slick by flooding the board to drop threads you don't like, that could change.

There was absolutely no legitimate reason to post all those coppers in separate threads other than to flood the coin board, and you know it. Don't play stupid.

Are you for real ???! You have got to be the biggest ignoramous on this forum.

Now you're trying to tell me that i can't post threads of different coins asking for opinions on them to learn something ?

What the freaking L is wrong with you?

I'll post threads about coins whenever i want to, and there's not a darn thing you can do about it. If i choose to post 4 separate threads of 4 different coins then that's my choice, not yours.

And it will be because of jerks like you that the operators of this board will start hitting us will all sorts of rules. Obviously, you came to this board figuring you would do as you damn well please, screw everyone else. You know exactly what you are doing, and you don't fool any of us who have been around here for a while. For example, the TOS on one board states:

You agree that you will not post any advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations. “Spam” and “flooding” will not be tolerated within the PDG Software forum. “Spam” and “flooding” are both defined as the action of posting similar messages more than once within a specific time frame. PDG Software exclusively reserves the right to determine what constitutes “spam” and “flooding” for the PDG Software Message Board, and further reserves the right to remove any messages deemed as “spam” or “flooding”. PDG Software further reserves the right to take action, at its sole discretion, to prevent the author of any “spam” or “flooding” from further posting such messages. Such actions can include, but are not limited to, removing the author’s membership from the PDG Software Message Board.

    PDG

It's beyond me why PCGS does not have a policy on flooding, but if you continue your nonsense I'm sure it won't take long. And I do hope that people have taken notice of your "I'll do as I please" attitude.

The color certainly does not enhance this piece IMHO. Looks to me like you have a 65 in a 66 holder.
  • K6AZK6AZ Posts: 9,295
I was shocked when I got the grade. As I said earlier, I had offered it raw conservatively graded as a 64 for $48 and there was absolutely no interest in it. I knew it had a good shot at 65, but I was floored with the 66. It's a good example of why I usually don't buy Morgans higher than 65, except in the case of color I like. I have 95 of the 97 coins needed for the basic set, and only four are 66. One of those was another surprise 66 that I had broke out of an old PCI MS65 holder, a 99-O.

    Eric,
You are an absolute and complete moron. No one but you has any problems with the posts i did asking for opinions on any certain coins i picture.
I came to this board to learn from people who have more expertise than i do on certain subjects. Granted i became frustrated at one point in time (about 7 months ago!!) and expressed my opinion on something. You live so far in the past it's rediculously sad. You need to learn how to get over stuff and live in the present dude !
MY "I'll do as I please" attitude towards you comes from your constant whinning about things that are none of your business. I take the "I'll do as I please" attitude because of you. That make you happy dorkwad ? It's all your fault for taking such a "I'm King Eric and you'll bend to MY rules or else" attitude with me. What do you think? I'll just roll over and beg you for more of your absurd bullying ? image Get over yourself idiot.

One thing i'm sure people take notice of is how i don't take any crap off of you. And i'm also sure they notice how rediculous you look with all your whinning about things that don't even pertain to this forum. (your rediculous comparison of some other forums rules that aren't even applicable to this forum) imageimage Now, stop acting like a jerk, and try to contribute something coin related instead of attacking someone every chance you get.

Nice try, troll. It's obvious that you have no experience on message boards, since you seem to think you can flood with no problem. As far as no one saying anything, most people try to be nice and hope you eventually wear yourself out. Go ahead and do what you please, but all you are going to do is make an a$$ out of yourself. I've battled with people much better armed than you. You want a war, you're going to get it if you keep flooding this board.

    s350,

Here's a new opinion. Not coming from Eric--coming from me. You're not the only poster here. Put all of your copper questions in one thread. People will like it more because they can open one question and answer 20 questions for you, which is faster than opening 20 threads and giving an answer one at a time. Eric's not the only one who's going to get really pissed really fast, even if he's the first one to be vocal.

On an aside, nice frosty coin, Eric!

    Jeremy,

Here's my thoughts on one thread with 4 or 5 large pictures in it.

It takes forever to load. The dial-uppers don't like it, so in consideration of them i chose to do a few separate threads.

screw me for having consideration and thinking of others !!
  • airplanenutairplanenut Posts: 22,148 ✭✭✭✭✭
Your pictures are 25k each... I've put a couple pictures that are 4x that big and generated plenty of responses.

Or, put the images on a web page/link them in your post.

Or, load them at CU, and attach them to your post.

There, now you're being considerate to the dial-uppers and everyone else.

What a disingenuous load of bull. You're doing it to bury threads you don't like, and to pad your post count. Pad your post count in the open forum on the cheat threads.
  • K6AZK6AZ Posts: 9,295
By the way, this is another on topic thread that had interesting information until this jerk decided to trash it with his little vendetta.
  • Jermy,
ok, Here's another reason i did several separate posts.

I was searching ebays Large Cent auctions and would come across one i wanted to get opinions on. I posted it and moved on in the ebay search. I come across another one, same thing.......and so on for several posts.

Eric seems to think that several posts, not one right after the other by the way, are too many for me to post to this coin forum. (?)

just for info here's the times i posted coin related questions yesterday:

    4:50
    5:12
    5:28
    9:00
    9:07
    9:10
    9:38
    10:26
    10:33
    11:29

ok, If i'm not supposed to post questions about coins here so i can learn something and interact with other members then what's the point of this message board ?

Ok Eric, Then explain why you felt the need to add this transparently obvious little dig to your thread title and message body ?

  • K6AZK6AZ Posts: 9,295
Because you flooded this board yesterday without regard to other people's threads. And flooding is prohibited on almost all boards I am aware of, except this one, and I am going to make it a point to see that PCGS incorporates a rule to prohibit it. Posting multiple threads with the same topic is inconsiderate of others who may not be interested in the topic you are. But as is typical for a young male, you beat your chest and declare you will do as you please. There was no mention of you in this thread, the discussion was on why PCGS graded the coin 66. You saw fit to start more of your chest pounding nonsense and trashed this thread, just like you have done to others because I made one post taking a contrary position to you in another thread. That's petty self serving BS, and you are not going to get away with it here. As I said earlier, if you want to escalate your little problem, you are going to be at odds with more people than just myself. Your choice, either cut the garbage now, or we can have a full scale war.

    Jeremy,
That's great, and a good idea but since i did not do it that particular way what's done is done. Maybe next time i have a question i'll consider using your method.

Eric feels it's his duty to police this message board and bully his opinions on the rest of us. I am just as bull headed as he is and i won't be intimidated by his arrogance.

No one else has a real problem with my posts. I ask simple questions and comment on others posts when i feel like it.

Eric seems to have a hard on for me and my posts. It's getting old.............
