Kind of tame for Goetz, eh? Or was his early work mostly like this? Still, awesome design and detail on it!

All of Goetz's early works were commissioned commemoratives up through 1913. The onset of WWI resulted in his satirical period beginning in 1914. Although "tame" this medal does show that Goetz had superior artistic and technical expertise for the medium. Not all of his works are like many of the goofy big handed cartoon-like characters seen on many of the satiricals. I actually prefer the work done in periods before and after the satiricals myself

Nice, truly a work of art.

It definitely does show his ability to capture very life like images.

Scott - Once again I am amazed by the different styles that Goetz can use - from the very realistic art to the "cartoonish" style of his satirical pieces.
    Thanks,

PS - I wrote this reply after looking at the picture and before reading all of the comments - I see a lot of us think along the same lines.

I guess I can only agree with the comments above; I was very struck by the different style as well. I had to look at the thread title twice to confirm that it was indeed Goetz.
Cacheman, which style of his do you prefer-satiric or realistic? (edited to add: never mind-I just read your last line more carefully)image
