1943 Lincoln Proof ?

I've never seen one, or even heard of one designated as Proof, or Proof Like.

Do they exist ? Has anyone seen one so well minted that it looked PL ?

Just curious.............

  • Well, there were no proof sets for 1943 but it would be cool to have a cameo '43 Lincoln.

Yes, PL steel cents do exist. I happen to have a 43-s in PCGS 65 that looks cameo on both sides.

Unfortunately, the pics I took look pretty crummy, so I won't post them. First time I tried to image it and the settings on my camera are not even close. (I don't photgraph steel cameo steel cents every day).

I'll keep trying to get a better image. Suffice it to say that the coin actually has mirrors and the devices have frost.

    Ok
Here is another attempt, but using my scanner. No special settings, no photoshop (other than rotation).

Sorry, I haven't learned to post the pictures directly, but here is a link.

Let me know what you think!!

  • By no means proof... but, quite possibly one of the very first off a fresh die pair, giving it some contrast... but that isn't even close to "Cameo," at least with your picture Nut... And consider that even proof coins that were struck as proof of that era, were barely ever cameo...
