Is there a modern BTW commem, or just the one from the 40's and 50's?

I dont know, but a bunch have come through here locally over the counter in collections as of recent. I would say roughly about 30 in grades ranging from VF to MS-62 have floated thru here in the last month. Very tough coin to sell in those ranges. In fact, i thin most are still sitting in the junk box in the local shop.

BTW's were made at all three mints from 46 through 51, so you 6 years and 18 coins. They're extremely hard to find in anything above MS63 and with good color, much less super toning. For MS63 and below pieces, the best thing to do I think is to put them together as a set and sell them that way - and raw - certainly not worth grading at those levels I think.

The Congressional authorization for the BTW commem was 5,000,000 pieces. They were struck for six years from 1946 to 1951 at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints. This led to a total of 18 different issues, the most for any commemorative design. Of the authorized mintage, 3,167,205 were minted and, of the pieces dated 1948 to 1951, 76,000 were unsold and melted. This would leave a net mintage of the design of 3,091,205. There is one slight hitch...when the 1946 and 1947 issues were melted, they were simply recorded as half dollars and not individually identified. The number remaining of these issues is not precisely known. Mintage figures follow:
