Is it easy to pick coins out of circulation to try to naturally tone them?

I've got a jar of coins from circulation that I add to every day. Maybe I could try some experiments on them perhaps? Maybe i'll set them in different enviroments and under different conditions. How long does it usually take to see a difference in color?

For clad, quite a while. Keep in mind that each coin has its own characteristics. I've seen coins from the same original roll tone very differently in the exact same environments. Several times in fact. Everything from barely any tone to full toning. Got me why but that's what makes for interesting experiments. But circulated clad probably has very little chance of toning normally. Zinc cents, though, that would be interesting. Probably just green corrosion...
