Home U.S. Coin Forum

I've never signed up or posted to the NGC coin forums, and have visited them on VERY few occasions.

I really enjoy this forum, and have about all I can read each day without seeking other venues.

I drop by over there about once a week. Takes about five minutes to catch up on everything posted between visits.

I check them out about once a week also. Not much activity on that board.

I post there everyday, as do several other knowledgeable, generous and gifted numismatists. The volume of posts and threads is exceptionally low when compared to this site, however, there are still many valuable things one can learn by participating there.

The software package at NGC seems to bother some folks, and I didn't like it that much, either, when I first posted at NGC. However, over time I have come to like their set up a little better than the PCGS set up, though that may just be me.

I would encourage anyone who might like to learn about the hobby/industry to read whatever boards they think might be of value to them, including both PCGS and NGC, as I believe that having more than one viable and vibrant numismatic board available to the public is more important than most people realize.

I used to post there frequently. Have several hundred messages there. But stopped visiting them when I got too busy to make a round robin around too many boards. Nowadays I post just here and one other place.

I only go there when someone here announces something of interest is happening there. Not very often in other words.

I have some Registry sets over there and submit to NGC, but I rarely look at their forum.

I don't really like the 1980's look to it.

  • I signed on across the street last year. I`ve posted a few times and drop in a couple times a week to check out the Coin Forum and Coin Tangents. Once in a blue moon, swing in The Water Cooler.

I don't have the time to post over there- this place takes whatever free time I have!!

All the different sites have strenghts and weaknesses. NGC forums are very good.
They are also much slower. The biggest asset is the several very knowledgeable
posters who post almost nowhere else.

The format does take getting used to but is alright when you do.

I think I was number 28 to sign up over there. Seems like the place just was not a good fit for myself. Plus after awhile the constant ranting about PCGS and David Hall got real old. I still check the forums out and read threads from certain posters about once a week.

I just go there to check out the babe test thread.image
And once in a while, to see if there is any new ranting by the Evil One against PCGS/HRH.

It's a great site to visit.
I gave up for a while when many there spent most of there time bashing this board.

It seems most of that has passed and there are some really good threads.
It's not a place to talk trash. They just won't put up with it. image

I visit there every day. A lot of knowledgable people over there.
  • I'm signed up, but I don't think that I have ever posted ever there and I rarely visit.

As Tom B said the NGC board is for knowledgable, generous and gifted numismatists. Since that rules me out I post here instead.

By the way, nice to see you back here Tom B.

I visit and post on both boards daily. There are many knowledgeable collectors on both boards. However on this board good information has a tendency to get buried very quickly.

I find the two places to be very different in so many ways. First, there is the software difference. I actually prefer the software here. Second, there is the difference in pace. Over here, things move much quicker. It's like comparing Manhattan to Princeton. Both great places, but they each have their own personality. Third, the place across the street serves as a haven for those who've been banned here. (Yeah, there are many folks banned from over there, but the overwhelming number of them are just trolls causing trouble in the OF.) That serves to enflame any simmering passions regarding the services.

My time has become very limited these days -- especially with post-season baseball. I wish I can cut out one of these sites, but I get messages at both places regularly. When I log in, I feel compelled to check out the threads. It's like a sickness, a compulsion!!! image

I used to read their posts...but they didn't remember my" cookies" and its too much of a pain to request a sign on name... which is different than my post to registry name. Its not worth my time requesting another sign on name.

Their posts for "?" of the week is interesting though. I won a 2004 Red Book last year !
