Am I missing something here?!?!?!?

I have been watching Ethiopian coppers for my African copper type set and the last two groups that I have seen on the bay have closed between $20 and $25. Doesn't seem like much for 4 copper coins, does it? The issue - my 2002 Krause says the coins in uncirculated are valued at less than $1 apiece!!!! Im my Krause that far off or have I just been caught by some people who don't know what they're getting into?!?!

Edited to add - the ones that I have been watching are the 1944 set which is supposed to be the cheapest of the lot (it's not the 30's coppers which are quite a bit more)...

  • What are the KM#s? Your description doesn't lead me to anything listed in the 2005 Krause.

Bizarre ... but then that's eBay! Maybe a horde dried up?

  • Could be a combination of things. The Krause is printed once annualy and probably updated less often on some of the coins contained. Ebay is only one buying/selling venue and is subject to bidding wars that drive the price higher than it should perhaps be in some instances.

I sell a lot of world coins on eBay. On some, the pricing in Krause is right on. On others, they haven't got a clue (such as on South African proof sets). The market place is a lot better guide to the value of some of these issues. image
