strange cancellation of auction

Say, I received an email stating an auction I had bid on was cancelled. First time it has happened to me. But have seen people post topics on this before. In the email, it stated to go here for an explanation. I did, and it shows a history and pattern of the seller cancelling the auctions.

Could this be an attempt of the seller not wanting to pay eBay's fees? I suppose it could be someone who saw the coin on eBay, and went behind eBay's back to avoid fees. It doesn't look like this seller has a store that he sells coins from, where someone could have seen it elsewhere. But he states that the "Coin is no longer for sale." He has done that numerous times.

But what is strange, is I receive an email from him. It is not an offer to buy the coin. But part of it says "...THIS AUCTION HAS BEEN ENDED EBAYS SYSTEM DOWN CONTACT TRUST AND SAFTY IF YOU LIKEE [sellers name]..." What does this make you think?

Also, if an auction on eBay is cancelled, does the seller automatically have an email sent out to all bidders? Or did he write and send that email when he/she didn't have to?

  • The seller is probably trying to protect himself by cancelling no reserve auctions that look like they are going to end with a monetary loss. This is against ebays policies and they aren't supposed to be able to do this anymore. I'd complain, even though it may not get very far. He may also have gotten an offer outside of ebay for the coin, which is also against ebays policies if it is an ebay bidder making the offer as it circumvents sellers fees.

ttt for the day crew. Sliderider. you are up way too late! image

Do they have to email you also telling you why they cancelled the auction? That seems strange.

    Geoman,

Be glad your bid was cancelled. That image is juiced beyond all recognition.

He couldn't cancel all of the bids quick enough and it sold for $83 instead of $128.53 image

<< <i>But what are the chances of the transaction being completed? >>

Since the winning bidder already posted this neutral feedback:

    << <i>Auction canceled. >>

I'd say the chances are zero.

He is one of several that cancels auctions VERY frequently. There are a couple of board members that have done that too. It saves them from loses and negative feedback from unhappy buyers that don't get the coins. I've won a couple of auctions and received an E-mail from the seller stating it wsa listed by mistake and they wanted more money or theye would not send the coin. Never paid more and never received the coins. Ray
