The '38 looks cleaned

the '31 looks F BN - lotsa details but what looks like a lot of circulation

I'd go about VF-30 on the '31-S, maybe VF-35. The cheekbone and jawbone are far too cleanly separated to be Fine. The wheat stalks to appear to be full, but some are weak. If the coin were Fine, the cheekbone and jawbone would start to be merging together. It's not foolproof, but that's usually the first thing I look at when determining if something is probably Fine or VF+.

Yes I agree that the 31-S looks to be a VF-20.......can't comment on the 38 nickel as I have no idea if it's been cleaned.

I agree with with everyone else on the 31-S VF or so but the nickel does looked cleaned or is that some really strange die polish? mike
