  • You know I have been wanting to see some photos of that coin for a while now.
Now that I got to see a small poor resolution pic, it makes me wonder, how it could be so nice and round.
It looks too perfectly round to me. I wonder if it might be a fake or not.
I don't think that they were using screw presses in England before 1,000AD yet.

I just saw the article and searched to see if anyone had posted yet.

Know what the most amazing thing is.... it was sold raw! How about that, a raw coin setting the record for any British coin. I guess that also happened on the 1933 Saint...

  • It was sold raw ???
With that being the "ONLY" known coin to bear the name of King Coenwulf of Mercia What differance does it make?
Looking for a better one ???
    LOL ...

Raw does not only mean not graded... not certified. Presumably this coin has been examine by experts and determined genuine. But how do you tell on a unique--notjust unique date and mint mark but unique type--that it is real.

  • I don't see any gloves being used........... ? So much for a one-off.......image
  • Earlwbollinger, many English hammered coins from this period are almost perfectly round. Here's a silver issue from
    Coenwulf. Text
