Question regarding the new nickel design.....

that we are looking forward to in 2005 ? First, I'd like to comment that I think it's great what the mint has been doing since the start of the State Quarter series. This in itself, has promoted greatly to numismatics and I'm sure has drawn many to the fun of coin collecting.
My question: Has there ever been a U.S. coin minted where the obverse bust design is off center ? I can't think of one. Do you think this will be a problem in the balance of the coin ? image

  • I know there are commems with off center devices, like the dome on the capitol dollar but I don't think that's what you mean. I think the platinum eagle has the statue of liberty head to the left of center. I can't think of a circulating issue that was struck with an asymmetrical design, though.

No, I think this will be advantageous; it will make the design more interesting, and may lead to similar changes in other coins.

The Stone Mtn. commem has the eagle on the reverse off centered.

I'm sure the mint has taken this into consideration when they chose the new design. image
