Left hand side is just tooooooo weak for NGC. It seems they like the outer edges to be very strong. Hey they (NGC) are tough.

No that's not full bands. It's pretty easy to see where the line seperating the bands is broken. I am starting to think NGC grades all 45-S's MS68image. mike

That's friggin ridiculous if they didn't give that FB. If they can give a Jefferson an "FS" designation based on 5.5 steps (last time I checked
that's not 100%) then this should be given FB.

I don't see how some coins are given leeway and others aren't.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

No slack for Mercs. Either its Full and split all the way or it is not. Thats the way it should be also to protect the collector when the dime is sold. Actually NGC does a better job on this than PCGS.

NGC is tough on Merc bands, but at least you know when they make the call its not a close call. They DO NOT call this 34D Merc FB

Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

Sometimes NGC does blow it. This is a 25S that they said was a No Band dime.

Needless to say this went to PCGS and got the Full Band designation.

  • don't forget that sometimes the top and bottom bands are not split while the middle could be split. could that be the case with the 34-d jrocco reported?
  • FairlanemanFairlaneman Posts: 10,423 ✭✭✭✭✭
The only band that counts is the middle band. The top and bottom do not have to show the split. The 34D is not a Full Band coin. Way weak in the middle.

Whats really hard to believe is that both ANACS and NGC said it was not. It is a FB coin for sure.

    MS70.....Thank You.

  • Looks like a tiny bridge in the center. Not much, but probably enough.

  • I'm surprised the top and bottom bands are not part of the designation...is this for sure?

    edit:

    PCGS definition states:

    Full Bands
Term applied to Mercury (Winged Liberty Head) dimes when the central band is fully separated (FB).

Same thing for NGC. A couple of dates come to mind that could have a split middle band and not a top or bottom. 16S and 26S.
