It is documented that cards# 1-180 are available in Gray and White Backs.
I thought I heard or read something about a certain number of these cards being very common either way and some cards (specific numbers) where a White back was considered very rare. Can someone here qualify this with specifics?
Thanks.

I just got a schoolin' on this topic from Neil Downey... like you, I never paid much attention, but the white backs from the second series (101-180) are very hard to find... I don't know the ratio of WBs to GBs in the series, but I do know that 707 is trying to build the second series in PSA 8 white backs... I have one PSA 8 white back that he is willing to trade me four PSA 8 grey backs for! So, that tells something about how hard they are to come across, but since I'm doing mine in any back, it's a great deal for me.
In # 101 - 180 the white back is the more "rare" version.
The "rare" gray backs are worth about 10-15% more than the white backs, however the "rare" white backs are worth 20-30 % more than the gray backs in the respective numerical ranges.
Most / many collectors do not really see a reason to pay more for the back color, and would sometimes prefer the white back for its sharper contrast, especially in the 1 thru 100 range which has the lesser book value difference.
This is a really great set there are several other variations, notable and quite subtle as well. A true master set with all possible variations including back color would be quite large.
Hope this was of some help.
could one of the backs have been Canadian ??
Have heard stories both ways but have never really collected the set card by card.
