Anatomy of a Buy-It-Now Deal

The moral of the story - bulk ebay purchases at fair prices are good!
On July 2, I went to work and, as usual, plugged in "T201" into the ebay search engine. Unlike other mornings, I found a 33 card SGC graded lot of T201s with a $750 opening and $1,500 buy-it-now price tag. Among other HOF cards, the lot included Evers/Chance, Lajoie/Falkenberg, Summers/Jennings, Collins/Baker and Speaker/Gardner. After quickly adding up the estimated value of the cards (some of which I already owned) and checking out the buyer's feedback, I hit the button.
The cards arrived quickly - there is nothing better than opening a package with 33 old cards in it. Approximately 10 of the cards were sold in the next several weeks for a little more than half of the buy-it-now price. Twenty-three of the cards were sent in to PSA for cross (outside of the SGC holders) and the grades came in last night. The grades received were worth the wait and, in many cases, better than expected.
Based on the grades received, the buy-it-now added 15 new cards to my collection, including 4 6s and 5 5s (Summers/Jennings). Also, I upgraded 4 cards (2 6s and 2 5s), including 2 big ones (Lajoie/Falkenberg - I had a 4 and I have added a 6, and Evers/Chance - I had a 4 and I have added a 5). In addition, I have 8 more cards to sell (including those that have been upgraded). In the end, I will likely pay for the buy-it-now and the grading costs with card sales from the purchase or as a result of the purchase (i.e., I will sell the Lajoie 4 that has been upgraded). Needless to say - I'm pretty pumped.
I need two more to complete the set, but one big one (Crawford/Cobb)..............

<< <i>I wouldn't have had a chance to (almost) complete the set this quickly without this lot. Probably saved me at least a year. I'll post some scans when I get them back. >>
great post and interesting. Thanks much!
