Burt Rutan's "SpaceShipOne" project was really a great achievement!

I'm glad it was Americans who did it! I wonder if they carried coins into space like they did on one of the NASA Shuttle missions?

Well you can keep your opinion to yourself Mr. Forum Cop.

Maybe you never heard of the specially struck Sacagawea Dollars made of gold that went up in a shuttle mission. It's an ongoing debate
as to what to do with them. Many think there's a premium for coins such as this. I'm simply wondering if the Rutan crew did the same.

    So bite me.

    Hi there,

If you saw the post I pulled it pointed out that Liberty Bell 7 had Mercuiry Dimes along for the ride - the first I think to carry coins into space. Yes, I think this is OT - and I retracted my opinion as you can see - immediately. I got into this OT thing and am not going to again - others feel the same way I do and have stated so regarding OT posts in general. Thank you image

    Best,
    Billy

Edited to add - obviously I concede your post was on-topic, that is why I pulled my post in under a minute. Apologies as necessary. Billy

I'm not sure about coins, but they were carrying quite a bit if stuff because they had to have payload equivalent to two tourists on board to get the prize. you'll probably start seeing it on Ebay.

  • Why did the Rodney Dangerfield post get moved, yet this one stays here?

I think this thread does have a small coin element insofar as it points out about the gold Sacs that went into space. At the time I thought the decision was motivated 100% by political reasons. I thought then that it was a terrible decision. And I still think it was a bad decision.
