Wow, my first scumbag bust. I hope the bidder on the listing that closed had a tin star on his chest and wasn't a normal bidder. That listing was actually still active with no bidders when I first reported it.

Man, eBay is getting way too fast. They NARU'ed this clown before I could drop a neg on him. Rats, and I thought I was going to get a PF64 1895 Morgan for $10k! image
  • K6AZK6AZ Posts: 9,295
Oh, I think I'm going to have some fun with this one. I have him believing that I don't know it's a scam and that he's been NARU'ed. He is supplying a PO box, I told him that I want to FedEx his $10k and they don't do PO Boxes. image

By the way, I found the auction he lifted.

Believe it or not, this moron gave me his home address! I called the the seller of the real auction, and they told me they sold the coin, and it did not go to Missouri where this clown lives. I have him believing I am FedEx'ing a cashier's check. I'm looking up the police where this guy lives, and hope they will do something about it.

I called the Sheriff's office that covers the town this guy lives in. They are going to call me back, though the dispacther wasn't sure they would be able to do anything since I am in Virginia. I wonder if an attempted $10k scam is enough for the FBI to get involved.
  • If the sheriffs dont work, try the postal police. If this guy has done it before they myay be looking at him. They get involved in some id theft . If this guy is using the us mail they might be interested. The postal guuys ive delt with have connections to ebay people as well.

I just got off the phone with one of their investigators. They are aware of this guy, and took a report. They got all the info, including the auction numbers. Sounds to me like they are going to pay him a visit.

Wow, that would be great. Give me the account number, your name and your PIN and I'll send it first think tomorrow.!!
    Thanks!

I think our friendly scammer is getting worried now. As instructed I have stopped replying to him, but in the last couple of hours he has sent five emails, all pretty similar. Then he just sent this one. I guess the "God bless" at the end is to reassure me that he is a man of God and would never rip someone off. It will be interesting to see how religious he is after the sheriff pays him a visit.

I also need an address for UPS to deliver your coins. Where would you like them sent? I will provide a tracking # as soon as it is sent. I will also have them require a signature.
Any luck on a tracking # on your end? Thanks. I just need to know if I need to be here before 11 am tomorrow. I don't want an item of that nature sitting out in the open.
    Thank you & God Bless!

  • Those 4 Pocohontas dollar coins are worth more than the 1895 Morgan anyway!! image

This just keeps getting better. I received a phone call from the investigating officer last evening at 7:30 PM our time (5:30 Missouri time). The officer told me that they went out and had a talk with this guy. They asked him to show them the 1895 Morgan, and it was "in my safe deposit box". They got some additional information from me, but did not say what else went on when they talked to him. Apparently he sent the email telling me what I would be getting after they visited him. I would assume this was a lame attempt at covering up his scam, however, the officer had looked at the auction prior to going out to talk to him. I'm not sure where it goes from here, but at the very least he has to know he was nailed on this one.

  • What about all the other coins he had listed in that auction??? He had a couple of rare golds and the 89CC PL Morgan and one other, I think. They were all being sold as a lot, weren't they??

Ebay nuked all the other auctions when they suspended him. The only auction left in their database is the one I "won", and I am surprised they haven't nuked that one either.
  • Unreal, go Eric !!!
