Fireplace play

Was at a beachouse in Bodega bay for the past 4 days. Had a great fireplace. I couldn't resist so i put in a modern rosy dime, statehood quarter and 1998 cent. The dime and quarter got red hot but thats it...although they are super dark now. The cent actually melted. The outer covering of the cent got white hot and the inner metal of the coin turned completely molten and dripped out to make a metal blob. Was pretty neat.

  • This thread should be deemed " have you ever mutilated a coin??? " image , I knew a guy once that lost part of his arm long ago, all that was left was halfway from his ex hand to his elbow, he could bend a quarter between the nub, if you got him drunk enough..

I've played with some pocket change myself. I would put it on my wood stove to get all kinds of funky colors. Ultimately, they all turn black. Maybe now I'll put them IN the wood stove instead.

Bodega Bay in October! You lucky dog! Must be nice up there. I spent a happy couple years living a little further up the coast in Point Arena, then in Anchor Bay, and finally in Gualala before rejoining the real world. That sky! That light! That tranquil blue ocean! The cliffs! The redwoods! The winter steelhead, long as your leg, stacking up in creeks neither wider nor deeper than a bathtub! Ahhhhh! Can you tell I miss it sometimes?

As for coin mutilation -- I've got a thing that looks like a volcanic cinder that used to be a nice PL, choice AU 1964 Charlottetown Dollar (Canada). I can't recreate the sequence of thoughts that led me to think it would be a good idea to introduce it to my wood-fired boiler -- nevertheless it happened somehow.
