eBay Expands PayPal Buyer Protection

This is good news, but the key will be how hard eBay makes proving your case and following up (in a timely fashion, of course) with the money.

SAN FRANCISCO - PayPal, eBay Inc.'s online payment service, will expand its U.S. buyer protection program to cover up to $1,000 for qualified transactions, the company said Thursday.

The expanded program, effective Nov. 8, doubles the upper limit of existing coverage and will apply to about 80 percent of items listed on eBay.com.

PayPal's buyer protection program covers items that are not delivered or are delivered but significantly different than described.

PayPal's buyer protection program will also be expanded on eBay's sites in the United Kingdom and Canada with new limits of 500 pounds and $1250 Canadian dollars, respectively, beginning Nov. 22. In Germany, eBay buyers will continue to receive coverage of up to 400 euros.

EBay sellers in the United States, Canada, Germany and United Kingdom can offer PayPal Buyer Protection by maintaining a 98 percent positive feedback rating and having at least 50 feedback points.

Everything starts and everything stops at precisely the right time for precisely the right reason.
