PA OUTDOORSMAN ACCOUT SUSPENDED

I just received an email from ebay that the seller of all of those 1950's and 1960's unopened material has been suspended. Glad I was not the high bidder on anything.
ebay seller name milbroco

I noticed that also... every one of those auctions I was watching mysteriously disappeared. The auctions looked legitimate, but there must have been something else going on there that we didn't know about.

Glad I didn't bid, though some of that stuff was plenty tempting. Hopefully no one wound up getting ripped off or anything.
  • had the high bids on 3 things, was really hoping it was legit
all 3 cancelled, then a note from ebay telling me not to do anything on the side with paoutdoorsman either, wouldn't say why, invoked the privacy issue.
also gave steps to take if i had already paid for something.

Better to find this out now than later. Hopefully those that sent payment can cancel their checks in time.
  • I placed 44 bids, all were cancelled... it would have been nice to win something for 9.99

It seemed too good to be true. I wonder where he got all those photos.
  • I still think it might be legitimate. He must have listed over 1000 lots, think of the time listing, scanning, taking pictures, etc! If he really wanted to scam people,he could list 5-10 high dollar cards. Just my 2 cents.
  • All of the cellos were phonies. All were reseals with incorrect material and incorrect folds. Several of us who collect and deal with vintage cellos had communicated about the seals on the packs. Many dealers and collectors were under the same impression that all were bad. With the rash of phony cellos that came out a year ago, most of us got educated very quickly in regards to what to look for. Fortunately he posted scans of the backs of the cellos and the resealing was obvious. A couple people went out of their way to warn others, but too many newbees jumping in. Anyway...one for the good guys.

So everything else was legit, but a handful of cello's were bogus?

Maybe the good doctor had connections back int he day before you were born.

Maybe Larry, the janitor at Topps would put these together and sell them out the back door?

If all of this stuff was bogus then it was one of the most amazing photoshop jobs in history!

And if it not bogus then why would a handful of cello's be bogus? Makes no sense.

    Loves me some shiny!

I still can't see how he got suspended for the cello's being rewraps. Yes the cellos were bad but that is not something that was going to get him booted from ebay the day his 1st auctions ended.

the issue is that yes he had a lot of bad cellos but there was a ton of good merchandise in these auctions. it is up to the buyer to know what he is buying and bid accordingly. obviously the "doctor" did not know what he was buying and ended up with the bad cellos.

way to many listings and way too many pictures and way too many "junk case" lots for this too have been a total scam . yes the cellos were bad and the person selling them on consignment should have pulled them but for the rest of the lots and the unwarranted negative feedback , he got a raw deal.

the guy is very inexperienced and over his head but I doubt he faked the cellos himself. maybe he faxed the moonraker cut case too , etc, etc, etc ...

  • It's a little sad that the auctions didn't go well.

I was going to wait to bid on his second round of auctions.
I was going to wait and see if everyone got what they paid for this time around.

I think the "where did he get the photos" question is a legitimate one.
I hope to hear more of this in the future.

Can someone on this board contact him and ask him to
come on these boards with some more info ?

I live in NJ, and it seems like he is in PA based on his ebay username.

    Packcollector.....how bout da bosox ?
  • I bought an SSPC Nolan Ryan PSA 10 from him back in July with no problems. I had the card in-hand 12 days after the auction ended, and that was after mailing a check & waiting for it to clear. He had the "no PayPal" thing back then, too. I still don't see why some of the bidders on his current auctions are complaining about that, given that it's clearly stated in all of his auctions. It looks like he got 3 negatives in the span of a day or so, all for not accepting PayPal or cash.

  • Maybe his contact info was bogus?
people in the coin forum tried to comfirm that info,
the story of the doctor estate, which he responds with
"Sorry to sound rash, but I"m tired of people trying to undermine this collection I fortunately was able to be included in for listing the items and it frankly is none of their business where the collection came from.
    coin forum thread

He also wouldn't allow pick up, and was very evasive with his responds, ignoring the real questions

  • My guess is that he was a legit seller. The cellos looked like some of the phonies sold 2-3 years ago. I am guessing that he was an unsuspecting buyer of cellos that he knew very little about. The coins and other stuff looked good to me. His MO, descripts and guarantees all looked legit. All I was saying is that the cellos were not good. That said, I would probably looked hard at the other stuff. The only hole in his items were cellos that you had to know what to look for. I'm guesing he bought these thinking they were legit.

If you read the coin thread, some of those guys didn't think the coins were legit. I don't know anything about coins though.

In a small way, I'm hoping that it is all a scam. What would happen to the price of Rickey Henderson RC's if 500 high end cards were graded all within a few months? PSA 9's would be in the $100 range, if that. There would be way too much new graded material hitting the market all at once. A lot of people's collections would take a beating of some kind. Low pop's that you just paid a ton for, would not be low pop anymore. On the bright side, if it is all legit and eventually gets graded, there might be some deals to be had on Ebay if the market gets flooded, which eventually may rebound in price allowing a profit to be made.

Yes..I too think it had more to do with the coins.

eBay posts the following warning when one is listing a numismatic-related item..unlike sportscards.

<< <i>eBay reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to remove any coin, paper money, or any numismatic-related item listed if eBay believes the listing is inconsistent with the selling guidelines set by the American Numismatic Association, or inconsistent with eBay’s goals of promoting the hobby and maintaining a safe trading environment.

eBay strongly recommends that sellers include all relevant information known about the coin or paper money, including any alterations the seller believes may have been made to the item, and include a clear scanned image of the actual item.

Please help us make eBay an even safer place to trade.

There were too many inconsistancies in his auction descriptions. Only $4.00 shipping for $500.00 card ? Who's he kidding ? No Paypal or credit cards on thousand dollar purchases ? Oh sure.
Send payment to a PO box ? yeah right.
It was in eBay's best interest to cancel all the auctions before too many people got burned and left eBay for good.

If I had all of that stuff at my house, I'd probably use a P.O. Box if I didn't have a business address that people could mail to.
  • Does it at all concern anyone that all of the cut card cases appeared to have been opened where some of the tape that sealed each box was either missing or replaced with a different type?

was all one big hit and run.
thank you to ebay is in order.

Has anyone emailed and received a reply from the seller to get his side of the story as to why his account was suspended and what the next move will be on all these cards and coins?
  • gaspipe26gaspipe26 Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭
To all the people who believe there isnt a big problem here. Let me tell you this. I have been contacted to purchase one of the items that was listed at my top bid price. That would normally be great except that the winning price was more than double my top price. I could make better than $10000 after all grading fees are paid on the item. There is NO WAY anyone is selling legit items at 25% of what there worth. END OF STORY.

i dunno.. but i doubt we'll ever see any feedback from anybody else that bought from him before the auctions ended.. i dont think you can leave feedback for a NARU'd user? So it eliminates the chances of the seller receiving positive feedback.

i think the seller got screwed.. maybe not.. maybe we were all saved from being scammed..

Sorry to bump this thread up again, but I was wondering if anyone has any further information on all of this. The account is still NARU, but I was curious if anyone was being contacted outside of eBay, heard any stories, etc.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • I emailed him asking for a list of available items and scans, he responded with he would and never heard back.... HOWEVER he did remention that anything offline was the same terms as in the auctions when i suggested me sending payment to the attorney's office and letting him send the cases to my attorney's office. ultimately he never followed up, guess he wasn't that interested in selling. image
