? regarding capped bust dime

While sorting through some junk coin at work last week, something really worn caught my eye. Upon further examination, I realize it's an 1837 capped bust dime! I highly doubt that it even rates an AG-3, but I could care less. What concerns me is this: after showing it to everybody in my family I decided to put it in the Whitman dime book I have for all the miscellaneous dimes I've found at work (proof roosies, barbers and even a couple seateds). Much to my dismay, it doesn't fit. It's too big! Even after reaming out the whole a bit, it still doesn't fit. Is this normal? Does this mean I've found a fake coin? I'm going to be seriously bummed if it's fake (you can't imagine all the cool fakes I've found), but hey! that's the way it goes right?
If anybody can help me with this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Gargoyle62, those coins (Capped Bust Dimes of 1828-1837) were struck with a diameter of 18.5 MM, as opposed to 17.9 MM for dimes produced subsequent to that type.
