Proof Sets

Hi,
I see a lot of proof sets being sold on ebay. They are being marketed as onopened. I have a bunch
of old proof sets but mine are all opened and I don't remember how they came. Are the envelopes
truely sealed or is this another marketing scam? If they are unopened what premium would be reasonable
to pay? A greysheet 59 proof set goes for around $25 and I saw an "unopened" one sell last nite for $50.

Wait for backup, but I don't believe in sealed sets. Get others to answer this. Don't just take my opinion on this.

Proof sets actually were sealed at the mint. But, you can bet your bootie that 90% of the stuff on eBay sold as "unopened" has been opened, picked over and then repacked.

If you're really in doubt, then simply don't bid more than you would pay if the set was opened. If you get outbid, big deal. If you don't, you may have a chance at some really great coins for cheap.
