Hickory Nc State show (Brief report from Friday)

I wanted to take a minute and briefly mention the Hickory NC show I visited on friday. This is the state show that is held in the western part of the state. It usually has as good dealer turn out as any in this area and brings in more of the regional dealers from surrounding states. At first glance I dont believe all the tables available were occupied as many were used to hold exibits.

Thier appeared to be a good crowd of buyers as the show opened at 10:00am, although I was a little late in arriving due to someone who was riding with me. (Ill explain later) Most of the buyers appeared to be looking for coins to fill sets and/or wantlists. Some of the coins that I overherd were being sought after, were nice early type(not many nice availble, except for a few of the larger dealers), semi-key date's, and Morgan Dollars. I herd several folks asking for better date and key date morgans at this show and was prevy to a saleof an xf 93-s raw for 7100.00. There were a few of the typical key-dates that you see at any given show 09-s VDB, 32-d washington's, 16-d dimes, however most in lower grades. Prices were quite strong on the nicer material especially the raw pieces. If you found a coin, especially a tougher coin that was priced fair, thier was usually a reason after you picked it up in hand. (Problem of some kind) Lots of overgraded and cleaned raw coins as well as some holdered by various TPG's . Lots of NTC coins at this show?? A couple of dealers were loaded with them.

Gold Rush Gallery had a nice selection of some Charlotte and Dahlonega pieces as well as IMO two of the nicest key dates in the room. An PCGS-65 RB 1877 Indian , and a gorgeous 1851-O Three center in PCGS-65. I finally got to meet Dahlonega and even though I have never been a strong buyer of Gold, it was a pleasure to meet him and chat. A super nice guy!

Talking with a few of the dealers that I know, it did look like quite a bit of stuff was being brought to the show to sell and dispose of by collectors. Possibly folks getting rid of junk and extra's . I helped a freind appraise a few smaller groups of coins for purchase and most was your typical every day type items.

I was not able to stay long at all as I had the most miserable 3 1/2 drive home you can imagine. One of our club members who has rode with me to a show previously got sick and had the worse case of the shi*s you can imagine, not to mention he relieved himself in my car and it was a mess to say the least. I spent the entire ride home with the windows down and couldnt wait to get him out of the car as the smell was something intolerable. It took me all weekend and a proffesional cleaning to remove the smell and stinch of that trip. (Never again) The only thing positive I can think of is the fact that I almost bought a new vehicle last weekend, Thank goodness !!!!

    Thanks for the report!

I am glad to hear that you met my good friend and one of the nicest guys in coins, "Dahlonega".

Wow, sounds like you had a pretty shi**y trip.

Me and MrsSpud were there on friday too. The show was alright. However, most of the dealers and their merchandise were the same as I saw in Charlotte and in a few other shows in NC in the last few months. That's not necessarily bad though because we are getting to know the dealers really well and they are starting to give us really good deals.
