"Sack Sac's in favor of Regan?"

Many of us have heard rumblings of a new Reagan Dollar after the first of the year and of course the end of the 5 year Sacagawea. Any thoughts or rumors to the contrary? One of the issues has to be whether to re-configure vending machines, but vending machines were not taking Sacs anyway.

Reagan is ugly compared to Sac. Keep her one of the most popular series for collectors in a long time.
  • I agree!

The sac set has added a lot of excitement to what had become quite a bland hobby....I'd quit collecting for some years before being completely taken with this series. Very exciting to collect. I'd been looking high and low for a 2003D in 8 to complete my set and understand that now someone's made a "9" in 2004-D.

    Very Cool!

Denver mint Sacs in MS-69 are real stunners. .....Can't wait for someone to offer me one at a good price.image

    Gee...another dead President on a U.S. Coin...Kinda like oil and water...it doesn't mix!

No offense to Mr. Reagan of course!

  • I suspect there will be a Mr. Reagan Commerative Dollar and Half dollar issued next year.
I think it would be a insult to put Mr.Reagan's likeness on a new dollar coin, considering on how unpopular the coins are outside of collector circles.
Maybe a new 2 dollar or 5 dollar circulating coin. That would add a lot of spice to everything. Mave something different.

  • With the current public disdain for dollar coins, I'm not sure redesigning it again is a good move. I'm also kind of shaky on the idea of a $2 or $5 coin. I'm sure collectors would grab as many as they could, but they would be like Kennedy halves, they produce billions of them every year, but how often do they circulate? I used to have tons of them in coffee cans and rolls until I got tired of looking at them and put them back into circulation (the clads, not the silvers). I don't understand why people hoard these things. Most years aren't worth any more than their face value except at the highest end of the grading spectrum. I think we could get along quite well if the mint made halves and dollar coins in proof only.

Hopefully it has gone bye bye with the plans to put him on the $10.

    Long live the Roosie dime!!!!

  • No more dead presidents please. I use SAC's daily in vending machines along with SBA's
  • Leave the SAC's alone, if you want to have a Reagan commemerative make it a full-size dollar 41mm.
  • Is there any chance the Mint will continue the Sacagawea series longer than 5 years?

    I hope so.

Does anyone have an inside on this? Someone on the forum must know an insider.

After all, they do sell well, at least to collectors. Eventually enough people will "get it" that dollar coins are more easy to use in vending machines, and less expensive to circulate.

Dollar coins make sense. They are a fiscally sound policy, as well as, being more ecologically soundimage
  • My opinion only...we do not need a Regan anything!!! If all the folks that think he was so great, need a coin in his likeness, then make a commem. dollar.
