Is there a misplaced date in the denticles? -- Seated Quarter

image

Lathmach pointed this out to me after looking at a pic of a new Seated Quarter I just posted. It's hard for me to tell, but it kinda looks like the top of the 8 just below the 7. According to him it might be a new variety. If so how could I have this confirmed?

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Michael

I can see it. Why don't you send it to CONECA?

If I look hard enough I can make myself believe there is a top of another 8 in the denticles below the 8. mike

Okay -- now what? Should this be reported to CONECA? If so I want Ray to get the credit for the discovery. It was his eagle eye that caught it. Anyone know how I go about doing this?

And if it is a discovery coin, is it worth more? Will ANACS or NGC grade and note something like this on the holder?

    Thanks for the help,

    Michael

    double post -- deleted.

  • Based on pics of Morgan VAMS I have seen with misplaced dates, this looks good. Get it verified.

Yep, you have an MPD. The only reference of which I am aware is Kevin Flynn's book "Two Dates are Better and One". I believe Larry Briggs wrote the chapter on Seated Liberty quarters. I do not have my book handy so I am not sure if it is listed or not.

You ought to send it to CONECA.Great find!
    I'll have to check my 1875 25c.
  • Kevin Flynn has it listed as MPD-001 in his book.

His plate coin is higher grade but it sure looks like this one.

Flynn says the coin is R-6 and should bring a premium of 3.0x to 4.5x.
