Hi,

I seem to have the bug with DMPL's, perhaps real good upside potential in the future plus I love the way
they look and I don't own any either. Saw this one on ebay. What do you think? Can this coin upgrade?
Should I shy away from a 62? Ms. Liberty's cheek seems to have a nice little hicky also. Comments appreciated.

Thanks for your advice.

  • Dosn't look like it will upgrade but still a nice DMPL.

DMPLs below the grade of MS64 exaggerate surface marks on Morgans. Also you need to watch out for carbon spots.

I concur, this coin will not upgrade. If you can live with the barrage of bag marks, I'd say go for it. I personally would hold off on a CC in the 61-64 grades as they usually look like they lost a cat fight. If you want a real nice DMPL, Id try an 1879-S, 1880-S, or an 1881-S. For 300 dollars, you can get a very nice MS64DMPL with relatively few marks or abrasions and have much more eye appeal than that particular example.

Looks like they held an ice skating contest

on the face of the coin. I do not believe that such

coins have a very bright future. They are plain fugly.
