I wonder of this is the biggest population explosion for any modern proof coin?

Amazing isn't it. I still have over 20 in 2x2 holders that would grade 69DC. The downside of moderns rears its ugly head again. CD

Over 7,000,000 of these were minted over a two year period. They run pretty
nice in both the '75 and '76 sets. To some extent the increase reflects more the
growth of demand than it does anything else. It is also one of the more popular
of all the moderns since it was made for so brief a time and has a popular design.

Proofs were specially made for collectors and have a very high survival rate com-
    pared to circulation issues.

Two years ago, I was paying $95-$100 for nice ones. Last ones I bought were $30. Still a nice one year issue that can't go much lower.

    I think.

IMHO, I think what we're seeing with this particular coin is what has been seen in past new isues......ie: 1883 no cent nickels, 1909 P lincolns, 1913 P buff's, etc....... So many were saved and with the Bicentennial Kennedy there are just multitudes out there that I think my grandchildren will be able to aquire these as we can aquire 1909 Lincolns today.............just my thoughts........Rick

BTW, during the same time period, the pop for PR70DCAM has grown by only three; from 10 to 13.
