DDO 2004 Jefferson Pics - NEWP

I picked up a Double Die Jefferson 2004 P Peace Medal Nickel today at a coin show from a dealer that I know pretty well. The dealer said he had found 4 of them in a roll from the mint. I first saw these at the same dealers table at 2 other shows. He had 1 left for sale and another one he said he was keeping for his personal collection so I went ahead and bought it. Attached are pictures of the 2 and the 4 and the mintmark which show the strongest doubling. I had trouble getting good pictures even though the doubling is pretty easy to see with a loupe. The only pics I could get with my low budget equipment were from a digital camera placed over the eyepiece of an antique microscope using a flashlight as a light source. You can see the split serif on the 2 and the crossbar of the 4, but they are a bit fuzzy right at the splits. The notch in the bottom of the P mintmark is well focused though. Anybody know if these are common yet?

I haven't seen many, but, considering the die state of those I have seen these are going to turn out to be rather common, similar to but somewhat less common than the 1995 1-O-V Lincoln. Most look like Class VI instead of the Class IV they've been assigned due to the late state of the die. (They are Class IV's, though.)

I just found out that NGC is slabbing these now as "2004 P DDO HANDSHAKE". I just looked on their pop report and found out they slabbed 51 of them. Is PCGS slabbing these too?

I doubt PCGS will catch up for a number of years. They are woefully behind the rest of the pack with variety attribution and certification. I also agree with koynekwest that these will be found to be rather common and readily available. The people who got in on these early as sellers will benefit in the long run. Buyers will likely have a hard time getting their investment back out of them. Buyers of the 1995 DDO from the time period in which they were discovered are still at a loss - most spent over $300 to be one of the first to have one.
