Opinions requested AT or NT on this SE

I don't wanna get into a big debate I would just like you opinions on this proof Silver Eagle:

Obverse if fully toned and reverse has just a touch of toning at the rim. The coin walked into the store still in the velvet box but the obverse side of the capsuel was missing. Do you think it would go into plastic?

Interesting coin, I know nothing of toning so I can't answer. I can see how that could occur if half the plastic cover is missing.

Probably NT, but on these it will slab even if it's AT.

put it to ya this way... if it's still in the velvet box but the obverse side of the capsuel was missing then it's NT

If it's all by it's lonesome in a flip, who the heck knows what they'll do day to day.
But I think most would agree it's slabbable by the top 2 on it's own. Pretty coin!

  • I'll call it NT. I have seen many coins tone due to velvet. If the reverse was protected by the capsule and the obverse was not protected, this is what caused the obverse to tone so purdy!

All I'll say is "I wouldn't buy it".

But don't let my opinion stop you from enjoying it.

  • In my opinion it's a tough call. The color is outstanding and based on the circumstances it appears to be NT but I'm not sure if the grading companies will agree. We'll find out though becuase it's off today to the one of the big plastic companies on the coast.

it seems with these modern toners, the TPGs oddly change gears??? How can they know whats accidental or AT on such recently minted coins?

"market acceptance" translates to ATed coins going into slabs.

It's tough to say from the images, but I would guess it's more likely that it's NT.........

Mix up some liver of sulphur in water, heat up your SAE and dip the obverse in for a few seconds. It will look pretty much like that one.
