How do you know how thick a card is?

I'm lookin to buy some card supplies and the screwdowns say they hold up to 60pt or 100pt cards (or other thicknesses).

what the heck's a pt? how do i know what cards are 100pt or 60pt? Do I just have to buy one of each and figure it out? I've always wondered this.

Thanks - Kevin

Pt refers to the thickness of the paper stock

    60 point paper stock
  • printers use a "mike" to measure the thickness of stock. It is available at printer's supply houses. Cards are usually printed on 60 point card stock.
  • What's the point size of the average baseball card?

I think your average 1957-1991 Topps card is about 20. 1989-1992 UD is about 12-15. UD Exquisite/UD Patch Collection embroidered patch cards are 120. Most GU cards are somewhere between 30-50. So a 60-pt holder should be good for most anything.
