Many thanks to Cratylus for alerting me to a 1913-S Barber Half in AU 58. The coin is on the way as I type this. Its white and fairly well struck.

Am now down to three Barber Halves to complete the set.

Great! Nice to see members helping each other out in ways other than posting answers to questions.

Can anyone help CharlieB find a 1913-S Barber quarter in a PCGS slab? He's been looking for over a year.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I have an ICG 58 , and if it crossed , it'd end up about AU 55, really nice AU 53 in my eyes. I only bought it because they arn't falling off of trees lately.

    Sorry Charlie.......it ain't for sale...................image

  • Mike,
I'm glad I was able to locate the 13-S for you... and I'm glad you own one of the former "1893-S AU55-58 Cratylus Hoard" coins. I do regret that you were unable to win my 01-S AU58 on Ebay though. I was really hoping you would win it.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for the last three dates. May take me a little while, but I'll find 'em. :-)

The 13-S arrived this afternoon. I studied the coin under 10X for quite awhile. There are no hairlines what so ever, but the coin was dipped years ago, yet the original luster booms off the coin. I grade it AU 55. It has a pretty decent strike overall, however the eagle's right facing wing adjacent to the shield is a tad soft.
Oh, the variety I received was the thin "S". There is also a die crack thru star 8 to star 9.

Anyone familiar with the striking characteristics of this date in MS ? ( Peter, Dale or Steve ? )

    Photo to follow.
