$500 Gold Certificate from 1882

Hello all,

I'm a baseball card guy, but have a friend here at work that needs help. His father in law passed away and found among his belongings (he was a pack rat) was this:

Feel free to email me if you need answers to any questions, and thanks in advance for the help. I don't have the bill here, but have a copy of it in my hand. I'm almost positive its the real thing.

$500 Gold Certificate series Sept 1st, 1882

front has red, gold, and blue ink

back is orange

obverse has Lincoln on left side, gold coin in middle, 500 on right, signed by B K Bruce on left?, Jas Giefillau?

reverse has D in a seal on left side, eagle middle right, gold certificate at top, five hundred dollars at bottom

Like I said, no scanner here at work today, but can have one in a day or 2 if someone really wants to see it. It isn't in the best condition wise (stained top left corner, corners somewhat rounded, but I think its real)

Thanks again, Keith

sorry all, the guy's wife just called. She took the bill to the bank and they told her it wasn't real because it didn't have a serial number on the obverse. Thanks anyway, Keith

Post a scan anyway. The people at the bank aren't always right.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
