Are there any in depth websites on "Benson" and his coins.

Was looking to do some research on Benson and what coins were slabbed, Ive heard all about the murder and all but what I really want is some in depth info on what was found in his safes and all. Was NGC the sole grader of his coins, did he have coppers or anything else that was graded. Just looking for some general insight into this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanxx

You wrote "Benson", however, I believe you are wanting to know information about "Binion". The Binion hoard will have a lot written about it.

  • Search the archives of this chatroom and type in Benson. There have been a bunch of posts on the topic.

NGC was not the sole grader of his coins - there were tons of them in Goldbergs Benson sales in 2001 on. So check their archives as well.

As Tom mentioned Binion was the collector who was murdered and had a huge silver dollar collection, a search will pull up lots of info about him on the web. And as CCU mentioned most of the info you'll find about Benson is on Goldberg's site, where 3 sales of his coins were consigned beginning in Feb 2001. Given your icon and signature line, I think Binion is who you meant image

You can find the other pages on your own once you get there.

However, if it IS Binion you are referring to and not Benson, then do what those guys say. Personally, I wouldn't pay the outrageous premiums attached to the Binion coins.
