The 1973(s) Silver Ike in PCGS-MS69 that has been on the pop report as the POP 1 coin for quite some time now - has anyone out there ever seen the PCGS coin or have concrete evidence that the coin truly exists, as opposed to possibly being a mechanical error for example?

Great question. It popped up about a year ago, if I recall correctly.
Never seen it or heard of it period.
Is there any way to have PCGS research it to see if it was made with a big batch of proofs and see if in fact it could have been a mechanical error.
I've seen this with NCG coins quite frequently, so I'm certain it could happen with Ikes.

think it would be GrandAm......He makes more high-end Silver Ikes than any one I
know!

If I had something that nice I would have already sold it to one of you guys already.
It would have been too good to put in my pitiful collection.
Jim: I am not sure PCGS could do anything about it at this point. How could they without a serial number?
I am sure PCGS could look up the coin and serial number in their database and even determine who sent it in last. But they
wouldn't be able to disclose that info to anyone. Privacy laws and such, plus the owner may not want anyone to know they have it.
Maybe PCGS could state that it really was slabbed or not?
I just got in what will show on the pop report (probably next week) as the second 73(s) MS69 Ike.

Oooh . . .
There are going to be crowds outside of your place soon.
Got any photos yet?
I'd love to see what a MS69 looks like.
That is true - unfortunately, they are just the gardeners and have -0-interest in the coin.
I'll see what I can about a scan of the coin next week.

If you can type in a serial number and have it look up in the database what type of coin and what grade it is then you can
do the reverse also.
It should be trivial for PCGS to find out who sent that coin in.

Why is the assumption that it was a mechanical error if no one here has seen it or "have concrete evidence?" Maybe some schlub just got lucky on his submission.
