NEW TOKEN: They don't get any more "Conder" than this one!

James Conder’s Ipswich (Suffolk) copper Conder halfpenny token dated 1794. Obverse: A market Cross surmounted by a figure of Justice. The area is marked off by a ring of posts: “IPSWICH CROSS 1794”. Reverse: Text on six lines: “PAYABLE AT CONDER’S DRAPERY WAREHOUSE IPSWICH”. Milled edge. James Conder was a linen draper at Tavern Street, Ipswich. He was an ardent collector of tokens and the author of the standard work on the subject until it was superseded by that of Atkins in 1892. This is therefore the origin of the generic name of Conder Tokens for these pieces. Lovely collectable condition with some subdued original lustre remaining not picked up by scan.

    I got this in the mail yesterday from the UK and it looks much better than the photo posted above. I'll have to take my own photos of it and post them later, but this one blows the one I sold a while back out of the water.image
