I noticed in the back of my Numismatist that a lot of people are getting awards for stuff. How can a regular Steve Dan like me get into contending at some awards? YN awards, cause that's what im considered, unless I can get at the others. Im quite interested. I think it would be fun and would earn me a name in the hobby.

Hello. I'm a former ANA Governor (and still have scars to prove it), and I read your Message Board inquiry about ANA awards.
The first question is, "What have you done for the ANA and/or the hobby?" There are various awards that recognize achievements by ANA volunteers and hobbyists on behalf of the association and/or the hobby.
Be sure the ANA (and the Board of Governors) know about your achievements. The Governors select recipients of some of the top awards, such as the Glenn Smedley, Medal of Merit and Faran Zerbe Awards, and there probably is an awards committee that would consider the contributions made by you and others for official recognition.
Best wishes in your work on behalf of the hobby,
