Need help Identifying coin

I have 2 1881 Silver dollar coins....How do i figure out what they are worth and whether or not they are from the San fransisco mint?
Are there any Charecteristics i can look for?

Thx so much for you help!

• Look for the mint mark on the reverse of the coin at the bottom. The value will depend on the grade of the coin.

• Welcome!!!!!

Pics would help

You can also look on the reverse side and see if there is a mintmark under the eagle.

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
• And what will the mint mark be for this coin? an S?
• ok one of my coins has an S mint mark but the other has no mark at all...What does this say for the second coin?
• No mintmark = Philadelphia

No mintmark means it was made at Philadelphia.

Shame its not a carson city (cc). That would have made your day~!
• Ok so wuold any of you happen to know what a slightly banged up 1881-S silver dollar is worth?
Or a 1881-Philadelphia mint condition Silver dollar is worth?
• Nobody huh?
• As I stated earlier it depends on the grade (or condition) of the coin. If you could post pics that would help.

• i tried scanning these coins and my pics came out terrible...So can anyone just tell me a price range between a banged up one and a mint condition one?
• $13.00 for VG to $30.00 for MS60 for both coins.

• Both are common date coins... so... retail value can run anywhere from about $7-$8 to up into the $120 range, and even higher, but only for very high grade specimens... again, pictures would be helpful...

You can either host your own pictures, or you can upload your pictures here... but the pictures have to be 50kb or smaller in file size. Then you use the and tags (Without the spaces) to insert the photo. Or, you can click the icon that has the little picture frame, and it will bring up a dialog box where you can just enter the picture's URL right into there...

Sorry, but really impossible to say, based on those pictures.
• Really hard to tell with those scans try putting a dark backround to eliminate the glare.

did you pull those pics off ebay?

\

I'll take a wild guess....the S may be PL, the Phily is possibly circ or cleaned. Offer the pair to a dealer and you may get $50---assuming best case scenario.
• No i didnt pull those off ebay and it Does have an S mark...i DOUBT either of these are uncirculated Because i got them as a wedding present about 2 decades ago...The have been in hard cases though so they are pretty clean...or at least one of them is..
Can anyone give me tips on how to get a good pic? i been using a digital camera...Should i try my scanner a lil more?
