PCGS Saints would not cross at ANACS!

Thought this was turning the tables a bit on PCGS. I sent in a pair of 1908 NM saints with the DD Rev. to ANACS as they attribute these. They bring more money attributed. The only problem was that the coins were sort of lower end......and ANACS would not cross them. Guess we have a new sheriff in town.

I have said for years that ANACS is totally unpredictable with Mint State coins and I wouldn't even think about anyone other than PCGS for Uncirculated coins.

Frankly, I thought both coins were dullish misgrades but I sent them in anyways on the advice of dealer. In this case it is PCGS who has the inconsistent standards as these 2 are a bit doggy with one of them just plain fugly and no better than a 63+. I wouldn't have crossed these either. Good thing these are already in PCGS MS64 holders.

you mean (GASP) 2 people may have different opinons, AND THAT'S OK???

  • Do you think ANACS is taking on more strict grading standards for the sake of being strict? i.e. gain market share by being overly strict with grading standards
  • Won't NGC attribute them through their variety attribution service??

I sent a missing state side clad Missouri quarter to ANACS and it came back MS62. I was not happy with that and cracked it out and sent it to NGC and was VERY pleased when it came back MS66!!!

ANACS is the toughest kid on the block anymore!!!

Different class of coin entirely, but I tried to cross 16 modern commems from PCGS to ANACS. Only 10 made it image. Nice thing, though -- the grader put little comments on the sticker (like "nick on cheek", that sort of thing). Given the comments, I agreed with ANACS, I guess.
  • Here's a quote from the .pdf available on the NGC website

NGC will attribute all United States gold coins by Red Book and Cherrypicker
varieties. The more obvious and desirable of the early varieties are listed in Yeoman’s
Guide Book, while the Cherrypickers’ Guide features the most popular of the post-1834
    varieties.

So as long as your vairiety is in the books mentioned above, you should be able to get them attributed at NGC. Just be sure to include a note with your submission containing the page number of the book that your variety is located on.

This is not a well-published variety. I don't think anyone but ANACS attributes it.

Since 3 people or more grade each coin, that's at least a consensus of 6 people who disagree. It's news on the PCGS forum because of all the Kool-aid drinkers who think PCGS is the cat's meow and take great glee in the fact the NGC coins cross around 20% of the time.
0% of the PCGS coins I submitted crossed at the #3 service. I'd be stunned too if I was a kool-aid drinker. According to the PCGS, gospel and the prophets who preach from it, this is never supposed to happen.
