Seth: In reply to your question, the 1880-CC (8/Low 7) in MS-63 DMPL is a very low pop (8/21) coin and is probably the biggest "score" of the group. I needed this coin to fill a tough hole in my PL/DMPL Registry Set.

Other significant coins in the group are the 1880-CC (8/High 7) in MS-64, and the (2) 1878-CC's in MS-64. It's also cool that I made a second DMPL in this group -- the 1884-CC MS-63 DMPL.

DollarDude: I'll be sure to take a photo of the 1880-CC (8/Low 7) MS-63 DMPL, and post it on the forum when I get it back from PCGS.

I have had it in my collection since September 1976, and originally paid $66 for it around the time of the LaVere Redfield Morgan Dollar hoard dispersal. image

Pretty much any CC Morgan that comes back DMPL is quite a "cha-ching."

Good golly Stuart, good job, that was a heck of a submission. I too also received my three CC's back today from across the street. I received one 82CC MS63PL, 83CC MS63, and a 84CC DPL. I really thought my PL would pull a DPL easy. Once again, way to go!
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

    BigE: Thanks for asking.

After I receive these Morgans back from PCGS, I'll review my PCGS duplicates, photograph them, and will consider offering them on the BS&T Board to forum members while the market is still hot for PL/DMPL CC's.

    Stuart, super grades.

The only ethical thing to do now is find all the people you bought the coins from and pay them the difference between the low ball au price you ripped them off ...... I mean...... paid and the going market rate for grades you made.

Ps, I will lend you the money you need at a favorable rate. Someone has to make an honest dollar around here.

    Nice job Stuart!

    I'll take it line 10 (83-CC MS61) is your equivalent of Marty's AU58 Franklin....

Guys: Thanks for the kind words about my recent Morgan submission results posted earlier in this thread.

Brian: Yes, although the 83-CC in MS-61 was a minor disappointment, I'll take it over a BB any day, and am very happy with these results.

Actually I had high hopes for the 1880-O (80/79), which I thought was a lock 63 and perhaps even a shot-64. I was pleased that I did correctly identify the 80/79 designation (discovered after I had purchased the coin) even though it only 62'd -- but it's a really pretty and lustrous 62 with a bit of attractive toning...

I'm building up a nice set of PCGS Morgan PL/DMPL CC duplicates which I will evenetually sell to fund additional Morgan or Type Coin purchases...

RKFish, JRocco, Damian, Paul & Brian -- Thanks for your posts and for your kind words on my Morgan grades!

I was also pleasantly surprised that the 1880-CC (8/High 7) was graded MS-64 -- that one came back about a full grade point higher than I had expected. image

  • Very nice eye on the grades!!!! I am starting on my base set of Morgans and won't be hitting the CC and vars for a bit.

DollarDude: Here's a first attempt to photo the coin that you requested a pic of earlier in this thread per the above quote. I'll have to take a better pic of it in the future. Admittedly, these shots do not capture the mirror fields very well...
