Subjectivity- A case in point

image I sent coin X to pcgs for cerification- It comes back as "cleaned"
I then sent coin X to ngc for certification- It comes back MS62!

I sent coin Y to pcgs for certification- It comes back au55.
I crack out coin Y and send it to ngc- It comes back "improperly cleaned"
Go Figure?

What is more fun is you then send NGC MS62 coin X to PCGS and it comes back MS63.

Send coin X back to PCGS in NGC holder and ask for a refund of your grading fees. image

One of the letters to the editor in the October 4 Coin World was essentially lamenting the same thing...

On what grounds? You can't prove this was the coin they originally sent back to you as cleaned. image

PCGS can't prove they sent back the coin submitted either. However, according to NGC it looks like PCGS sent back the wrong coin. image

Gotta love NGC/NCS. YOU clean 'em, it's "improper cleaning." THEY clean 'em, it's "proper cleaning."
  • I'd send the NGC slabbed coin back to PCGS in the NGC holder for a crossover and see what happens. Maybe the presence of the coin in their number one competitors slab might make a difference.
