Is this a US coin?

Looks like the old conn. tokens. Anyone know anything about it?

I think it's English. Look at the shield on the reverse.
  • I also think it's english....I can make out Hibernia on one side and I know there are some Colonials with that, but I can't find one with that sheild. I am no expert though, so someone with more of a background with Colonials will have to jump in to confirm.
  • Most likely British. The Brittainnia side is VERY similar to the #8 picture on plate J in Davis's 19th century token coinage. (There is a better book on these tokens but I don't have a copy yet.) There is a slight chance that it might be Canadian. They had some tokens in the EARLY 1800's that were similar to the English tokens. It is NOT a US coin.
  • It certainly looks like Britannia seated to me. Probably a wartime token of some kind. I have seen U.S. wartime tokens that looked similar.
