My take on the pathetically humorous criticisms of the new Jefferson Nickel designs.

Well, I just flipped through the most recent CW and can't help but laugh at all those who seem to be going out of their way to find things to criticize about the design. I'm struck with the impression of a young, spoiled child who just can't seem to be satisfied. There will always, always, always be something that just isn't right. The latest rant is in the Editorial:
Geographers have already taken issue with Lewis and Clark pointing right (east) rather than left (west) on the 2004 Commemorative Silver Dollar. They'll have the same complaint for the 2005 5-cent coin, with the Pacific Ocean shown on the right (east).
Surely this is madness!!!!!!!!!!!! A geographer should realize that if Lewis and Clark are standing at the Pacific Ocean and facing SOUTH, that to their right will be west. At least every time i face to the south, west is to my right, always has been!! Of course there is always that hard and fast coin orientation rule that right must be east. La, La, La, La..................
Methinks geographers need to stick to map making or some such undertaking. Leave ranting about "Dead Presidents" and depictions of "Liberty" and other coin design peculiarities to someone else.
OK, now I feel better. Oh yeah, did I mention that I really like the new designs???

There have been a lot of weak designs in the last thirty years but the good ones have
been panned right along with them. In everyones' defense though, almost all new coin
designs have almost always been panned. It sometimes takes many decades before they
are appreciated.
I'm with you Keets. I also like the designs.

<< <i>The nicks are OK but not exceptional. The state quarter series was a complete joke. >>
I agree with the above statement.
