Breaking Factory Sets for PSA Submissions?

Just curious if this would be a smart idea? I have a 1985 Donruss Factory baseball set (among others)...the set is broken down into sections, wrapped in cellophane, then stuck in a box. I've taken the cellophane packs out of the box, but they are still intact.

Would it be worthwhile to break them out and get the valuable cards graded, or would it be better to leave them in the cellophane?

Thanks.

depends sometimes that cello wrap could cause dings on a corner, open one carefully and check im not sure how much upside there is though in getting those cards graded, clemens maybe not sure

The 84D Donruss factory set issue is one area I'm familiar with, and it comes with a fair amount of frustration. I have witnessed many examples of psa 9's in 84D that have one or more rounded corners due to the cello wrap, but yet still pull these grades. Usually the biggest 'round' is in the upper LH corner. And many are noticable to the naked eye, without the aid of loupes/microscopes. When these examples are put under a mircoscope, they look like an exacto knife and a radius gauge were used to carve the corner.

The consensus seems to be that factory is the way to go to submit, but I think that grader subjectivity at any given time on any give day is the one variable that overrides whether the cards are from factory sets or not.

Factory sets are risky from any issue. I've even pulled cards out of factory sets with wrinkles on them. Even the ones that aren't wrapped can have corner dings. IMO, they're better than wax, but they're still an overrated source for high grade cards.

I meant I already have the set...is there any benefit for me leaving it wrapped up, as I really have no intention of selling them...was wondering if opening them up and submitting the valuable cards.

i knew you already had one, the choice is yours take a peek and see if some will grade out 9 or 10

    imo id leave them be

if i had 2 sets id open 1 and keep 1 wrapped.

when those sets came out and i saw that they were wrapped i thought this hobby is in trouble. y buy something that u cant see

    ohhhh buy 2
    Good for you.
