    That's what I was thinking. It's because of the acid. Don't try this with anything any good.

    I work with a guy who was in the service(Air Force), they used hot sauce to polish all their brass. I tried it, it works pretty well, but lots of elbow grease is still needed.

    It's the vinager and salt that's in the sauce,it actually destroys the patina and turns a pinkish color.

  • They turn the same shade of pink as if you dipped them in silver/gold dip. The acids in the sauce are probably similar to what's in the dip. I'm sure you all have in a mall or flea market near you, a hot sauce vendor with all the exotic brands. Some of them carry the pure extract of the peppers refined to a clear liquid and sold in what looks similar to a crack vial. You actually have to sign a legal waiver before they will let you buy this stuff, it's so potent. I wonder what kind of effect that stuff would have on tarnished metal.
